About Mary L. Drake
I was born on May 25, 1955, in Talladega, Alabama, but I grew up in Elkton, Maryland. Back in the day, Elkton was known as the place to go for quickie marriages. I had a happy childhood there with my parents and two brothers. My mother always loved writing, so I figured I took after her.
While growing up, I made up all kinds of stories, but the first one I had published was in college. I was thrilled, and that just got me going. Most of the time, writing doesn’t seem like work to me. Along with writing, I’ve done many other jobs, some interesting, some not. They have included waitressing, secretarial work, teaching aerobics, editing and writing technical documents, even reading legal documents for a blind lawyer. It’s all been fodder for my writing.
When I finally got brave enough, I began to write novels. Stories help me make sense of the world, plus they’re fun.
