Fiction that leads you into Other Worlds
Where the Path Leads
Where the Path Leads, my first novel, is the perfect read if you love knights, castles, and noble ladies.
Emily thinks medieval times sound like great fun, so the Renaissance Faire is just the place to escape the demands of her life. But when she's magically transported back in time, it's nothing like she imagined. It might not be bad for the nobility, but Emily isn't. She doesn't want to work in the fields. And she doesn't think anyone else should have to, either. That thinking gets her in big trouble with the Baron’s overseer.
He will resort to anything, even black magic, to get a kingdom of his own. He uses Emily to obtain rare objects of power from the enchanted Blackwood forest, which brings her in contact with the magical realm. She meets bergfolk, a fire-drake, and shadow wights, among others.
Surprisingly, her otherworldly experiences have much to teach her about real life.
The Chocolate Meteor
The Chocolate Meteor brings you close to the ground to see the world from a mouse's point of view.
A girl named Phoebe finds and adopts a field mouse she names Moosie. They have something in common--their concern about food. Phoebe doesn't know what to feed her pet mouse, and she also struggles with her own eating. She loves food but lives in a culture that worships thinness.
The problem comes to a head when her boyfriend gives her a big piece to chocolate that she can't quit nibbling. Finally she throws it away in the only place she won't go to retrieve it, the brushline behind her house. It lands practically in the lap of Moosie, who has fled the indoors to escape the house cat. The chocolate meteor which falls from the sky sets into motion events that affect the lives of many brushline residents.
Obsessions with food lead both Moosie and Phoebe to hurt those they care about and they have to look within themselves to find the way out.
The Wide World
In The Wide World, a sequel to The Chocolate Meteor, Phoebe and Moosie again travel similar paths as they set out to find their place in the world. Only, success comes at a price.
Phoebe Grindewald is thrilled when she lands a professional job, even though it means leaving her home, all her pets, and even her boyfriend.
At the same time, Moosie, once Phoebe’s pet mouse who has escaped to the wild, decides to make a dangerous journey through the brush line to get to the cornfield, where he hopes to establish a home.
Both set out full of hope but, before long, they meet with unexpected obstacles and dangers. In her new job, Phoebe’s writing skill is questioned even as she wonders whether the job is really worth it. And Moosie feels himself a failure, since he can’t find food for himself and his mate.
Their parallel lives are each leading them to places they don't want to be, which forces them to re-think the meaning of success. Whether you’re big or small, you’ll be happiest if you’re true to yourself and to those you love.
